Shane's 1st Chemo

Shane had his chemo treatment yesterday and he feels great! It is not the greatest thing to do on your birthday, but it was great because we did get to spend all day together. HCI is so great...we sat there in The Infusion Suite (yes somehow it is a suite) side-by-side with our laptops dialed into work. How great is it that we can be sitting in a hospital getting chemo (yes the chemo part sucks) and work as if we are sitting at our desks at the office. Gotta love technology.
So we learned an interesting thing from the lovely chemo education we received yesterday. So anything that comes out of your body for 48 hours after chemo is toxic, including sperm. It was kind of strange to think about.
Anyway, Shane is feeling good. In fact, he said that he kind of felt an energy high and had a hard time falling asleep - but the could have been the sugar high he was feeling from the chocolate molten cake, ice cream, and eclairs he had just eaten :)

Happy Birthday Shane!!

It is my sweet husband’s birthday today. I thought I would take a moment to tell him how much I love him. He keeps me laughing constantly. My new goal is to keep up with him and his sarcasm. I think I am doing pretty good lately (the one Tuesday night in the hot tub was the best so far…lol – yes I used an acronym too)
Anyway, I am very grateful to have him as my husband and lucky to spend the rest of our LONG lives together.
I love ya hun and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

A Random Thought

As I sit here on the 6th floor of the Huntsman Cancer Institute I peer out the window over looking the valley while I enjoy my complimentary waffle, I am almost overwhelmed with the rush of thoughts entering my mind. And as if automatic my mind pauses on a single thought, a thought that has been with me for quite some time. People it is “thaw” not “unthaw”, think about it for a minute, thaw is the opposite of freeze, so that would make unthaw the same as freeze, correct? Then why does everyone say they are going to put something in the microwave to unthaw it? Somewhere birds are chirping, somewhere children laugh and somewhere, someone is UNTHAWING something but it isn’t in a microwave.

Jen's Addition

I think Shane started tuning out the chinese doctor (Dr. Chen) after not being able to understand her... :)
The CT Scan showed 2 additional tumors attached to his rib. They think that one of those was actually the primary tumor that had metastized to the neck and other areas. There are several others scattered through his lungs as well as the one on his pelvis. Just thought I would give a full report from the CT Report.
You can definitely tell who the serious one and the sarcastic one is in this relationship.

An update from Shane

Well I guess it is my turn to update the blog since Jen is out of town at the moment so here goes. First I would like to start off by saying that I am the luckiest person in the world. Why you may ask? Because there is only one Jen and I have her, she truly is amazing and I realize it more and more everyday.

Now it is time to rant, what is wrong with all you people? And I don’t just mean the people that are reading this, I mean everyone in the world. I am so sick and tired of acronyms I can’t even see straight. When did LOL replace hahahahahahahahaha and when did ROFLMAO replace
hahahahahahahahah
‘Takes Deep Breath
Hahahahahahahahah
I have to deal with hundreds of acronyms in my job and then every jackass that sends an email or a text has to throw in another one “BFF” “LOL” “FWIW” “FYI”. So where did it come from and where did it start? Well I have my opinion, it was that damn Tigger, you know Mr. T-I-double-guh-err, bouncing around shouting “TTFN”. I don’t even know what to say other than “WTF”.

Oh yeah here is my update from today’s Dr. appointment, apparently I am the lucky owner of not 1, not 2 but 3 more tumors, one in my back on my ribs, one on my hip and one in my lungs. I go in on Monday so that they can surgically install a port, which is kind of like the gas door on your car, it makes it easier to get the Chemo into my system which I start on the 29th. I have a bone scan on Wednesday to see if the Cancer is in the bone.

Don’t worry I will let you guys know when it is time to start feeling sorry for me but now is not the time, and today was proof of that. I ended up getting into a fight with a guy at the hospital, it was a close fight for a while but in the end I was the winner, and to be a good sport I even helped the guy back into his wheelchair and even put his oxygen mask back on. Uh for those of you who don’t know me that was a joke, you know J\K, LOL.

Update on Shane

Today was Shane's first appointment at Huntsman's Cancer Institute. His appointment was with Dr. Bentz - the head and neck surgeon. He told us that they wanted their pathologist to take a look at the tumor to confirm the diagnosis before making any plans for treatment.
He told us that because of the location of the tumor, there would not be any more surgeries involved. He told us that normally when a tumor is removed, they remove the area around the tumor as well, to make sure they get everything. Shane's tumor was sitting on main arteries, bone, and his lung. So he said that wasn't a possibility.
Shane has been reading about angiosarcoma on the internet, and everything he has been reading was very bad. The doctor confirmed that it does not have a good prognosis. He told us that our best bet was to start radiation and there are some experimental chemotherapies available. He didn't go into very much detail. He told Shane that he wanted him to get his scan scheduled today if possible. We were able to schedule it for tomorrow night. So when we go to his appointment on Friday, they should have results to let us know if the cancer is anywhere else in his body.
Shane is maintaining his positive attitude that whatever it is...HE WILL BEAT IT!!
We are very appreciative that he is able to go to Huntsmans for treatment.

Shane's Tumor

Viewer Discretion Advised!!

Since the doctor told Shane that he couldn't keep the tumor, he opted for pictures. This was removed from his neck. It is about the size of a tennis ball.
He has a couple of appointments at Hunstman's Cancer Institute next week
(Feb 20 &22)
Hopefully we will know more after that.
